Pagan Christianity - Frank Viola / George Barna
I like it… but….
I want to tell you to go out and buy this book right now…. but I just can’t do it.
I’m not sure how much George Barna had to do with the writing of it, it seems to be all Frank Viola and it is really, really good.
HOWEVER…… Viola has done what we all do and become a little single minded and closed to some truth and it spoils parts of the book.
If you want to understand the roots of most of our traditions, this is the book for you.
If God is calling you to do church differently from how it has ‘traditionally’ been done, this is also the book for you. BUT…. seek God’s guidance over every part of it because sometimes I feel the author(s) go a little too far and lose focus on what God is saying.

The sequel to “Pagan Christianity?” is out now. It’s called “Reimagining Church”. It picks up where “Pagan Christianity” left off and continues the conversation. (“Pagan Christianity” was never meant to be a stand alone book; it’s part one of the conversation.) “Reimagining Church” is endorsed by Leonard Sweet, Shane Claiborne, Alan Hirsch, and many others. You can read a sample chapter at
http://www.ReimaginingChurch.org
It’s also available on Amazon.com. Frank is also blogging now at http://www.frankviola.wordpress.com

Will the real George Barna please stand up? On one hand he endorses “Seeker Sensetive” churches with its pastors, staffs, salaries, etc. On the other hand, with “Pagan Christianity,” apparently he does not.
One one foot, he apparently doesn’t agree with church leadership structures that reflect business models. On the other foot he does. Before we lose our hands and feet as the church of Jesus Christ, will George Barna tell us what he really thinks.
